The Cat Empire brings massive finale to Festival 2018

Published: 13 Apr 2018

Festival 2018 will draw to a close this weekend with a massive finale featuring one of Australia’s best-loved party-starters The Cat Empire on Sunday 15 April.

Delivering a melody-driven, joyful sound that makes everyone want to dance, The Cat Empire is known for their high-energy live shows.

On the final day of the 12-day free arts and culture festival, held in conjunction with the GC2018 Commonwealth Games, live music will feature on the Cairns Esplanade from 4pm.

The Live Site will feature a full weekend of activities and entertainment, with Torres Strait hip hop artist Mau Power the headline act for Day 11 – Saturday 14 April.

Driven by a passion for storytelling and inspired by the culture of hip hop, Mau Power is the first rapper to emerge out of the Torres Strait. Having performed at the Opening Ceremony of the GC2018 Commonwealth Games nine days ago, he will play a major role in the closing weekend of Festival 2018.

He will be supported by the Deline Briscoe Trio and ska reggae outfit Skanq.

View the finals days of Commonwealth Games competition on the big screens scattered around the Live Site – with vantage points available in the cooling waters of the Cairns Esplanade lagoon and from the extended al fresco restaurant dining.

This weekend represents the final chance to view a series of art exhibitions and installations, including the spectacular Big Design outdoor gallery on the Cairns Esplanade. Exhibitions are also hosted at the Tanks Arts Centre, Cairns Art Gallery and Umi Arts Centre.

The Cairns Esplanade Live Site operates daily 10am-10pm throughout the duration of the Commonwealth Games (4-15 April). View the full Festival 2018 program online.
