It probably won't come as a surprise but the planned outdoor movie night at White Rock's Khalu Park for tonight has officially been cancelled due to the rain. ☔️ We've had a look at the calendar and we're rescheduling the movie for 18 November. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Did you participate in the Our Cairns survey? If you answered yes - then this award is for you! The project picked up the Judges' Award at last night's IAP2 Australasia Core Values Awards, which is a pretty big deal if you're into community engagement. But it wouldn't have happened without the amazing response from our community. So big cheers to everyone involved! 🎉🏆 http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/council/news-publications/media-releases/releases/our-cairns
Edmonton Library, Hambledon House and Babinda Waste Transfer Station are all open as normal today. Thanks for your patience during yesterday's disruptions due to weather.
Last night's thunder has led to a spike in lost pets. We've had quite a few come into our pound today, so if your furry loved one is missing, check the link below to see if we have them. If you've found a wandering pet, give us a call on 4044 3044 so we can help reunite them with their owners. And a reminder to make sure your pet's microchip and rego are up to date - it helps lost pets get home quickly and easily. http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/payments/impounded-pets

Happy National RIde2Work Day! Join us on the Esplanade until 8.30am for a free hot brekky & lots of other great free stuff. Great to see our local boys & girls in blue embracing the day 😎🚴‍♀️
WEATHER UPDATE II Ride2Work Come rain or shine Ride2Work Day will go ahead as planned in the morning, so cycle on down to the Esplanade between 6.30am and 8.30am for a free brekky, sports massage, giveaways, and bicycle servicing. Here are a few handy wet weather riding tips to get you to the Esplanade safely: * Allow extra stopping distance - your brakes aren't as efficient in the wet * You may need to pump your brakes to dry out the rims * Keep your front and rear lights and helmet lights on to make yourselves more visible to other traffic * Be extra vigilant around pedestrians - umbrellas and rain hoods can obstruct their view See you at the Esplanade!
Get ready for the upcoming wet season by clearing out overgrown vegetation in your yard and dropping it off at one of our waste transfer stations on 4-12 November. If you live in a low-lying or floodprone area, this will also be your chance to stock up on some free sandbags and be ready for whatever the Big Wet throws at us!
